Temperament Skincare Series Part 2: Undereyes! Phlegmatic and Melancholic!

Part two of the temperament skincare series is here! Onto Phlegmatic/Type 2 and Melancholic/Type 4.

Phlegmatic/Type 2: A phlegmatic's basic humor is phlegm and their qualities are cold and wet. They have some what of an energy conservation in them and everything is done with a moderate pace. This temperament has delicate skin that is cool and sometimes clammy.

Four descriptors for this temperament when it comes to eye cream:
wet (skin is usually clammy and sometimes warm with perspiration)
circulation (Phelgs have a slow metabolism and tend to have poor circulation, bloods best friend)
Anti-puff (anti-puff, having excess Phelgm (in the nasal passages) can cause under-eye bags)
Anti-aging (This is pretty much across all temperaments. Phlegmatic's tend to look younger so they may want to keep that going through a carefully planned anti-aging skincare regimen)

My two recommendations for the Phlegmatic temperament:

This one is a little different but I though since Phlegmatic's are deep sleepers they are likely to have great cell turnover (this may be why they look younger as well) and why not do an overnight treatment mask. This mask contain ginseng which will help circulation and retinol to keep a youthful look. It also contains caster oil for deep hydration but not a heavy one that would interfere with a Phlegmatic's clammy skin.
Shiseido - Benefiance Pure Retinol Instant Treatment Eye Mask

The eye roller alone will boost circulation and would feel amazing if put in the fridge on tired puffy eyes! It contains caffeine, peppermint and b-vitamins which will both help boost circulation and is a creamy gel like consistency creating a nice canvas that isn't too heavy on a Phlegmatic's wet skin. It also contains salicylic acid which will help with cell turn over and keep a youthful look.

Melancholic/Type 4: A melancholic's humor is black bile and their qualities are cold and dry. Melancholic' s tend to have poor health but being a type 4 they could probably manage to kick their health into gear.

Four descriptors for this temperament when it comes to eye cream:
rich (skin is usually dry as well as cold so a rich cream would be wonderful)
Brightening (Melancholics skin tends to be dull and ruddy, they also do not sleep well)
Re-texturizing (rough, textured skin that needs smoothing)
Anti-aging (This is pretty much across all temperaments. Melancholic's and Choleric's both need that extra protection)

My two recommendations for the Melancholic temperament:

High end: La Mer The Eye Balm Intense
Being that melancholic's tend to be materialistic I thought this would be not only kind of ironic but appropriate to include in the melancholic portion. La Mer. This particular balm covers dark circles, puffiness, smooths skins texture and has many many anti-aging properties. I couldn't find much on ingredients but I know this is a very coveted eye treatment.

Drugstore: L'Oreal RevitaLift Triple Power Eye Treatment
I have actually used this and really liked it. This one rolls all of the melancholics needs into one. It contains hyaluronic acid which deeply hydrates and helps reduce wrinkles. It boost collagen production and contain apricot kernel oil for deep hydration as well. It also contains vitamin E for a wonderful brightening effect!

Temperament Skincare Series Part 1: Undereyes! Sanguine & Choleric

When looking at the Greek temperaments we must remember they were created in order to treat people holistically. Today the temperaments extend into our vast melting pot of energy types, seasons and much much more. I thought why not try and tackle what each Greek temperament might need in the beauty realm of skincare? This series will cover skincare from face to body. Part 1 is under eyes. It is important to protect and take care of this very delicate skin. So here we go:

Sanguine/Type 1: A sanguine humor is it's blood. Their basic qualities are hot and wet. This is the quintessential temperament, it is thought of the most desirable of all four because blood is the very soul of health, vitality and looking youthful.

Four descriptors for this temperament when it comes to eye cream:
wet (skin is usually moist and warm)
revitalizing (vitality in the blood means a buoyant glow to the skin)
luxurious but not heavy more like silky (as in ample, youthful, luxurious flesh to the touch)
Anti-aging (Sanguine's are social/extroverted and aesthetic people so they probably want to look their best when being social)
hehe there is a fifth one:
Circulation (Bloods best friend)

My two recommendations for the Sanguine temperament:

Is deeply hydrating with avacado oil and tamau oil, revitalizing with vitamins A, C and E, and loaded with anti-oxidants like CoQ10!

Product Image

Serum formula is wet/slippery, also loaded with anti-oxidants like B vitamins and green tea and exfoliates the eye area to keep it revitalized!

Of course anyone can use these but if you are a true Sanguine, these may help you!

Snuck in a third (hehe)
Contains coffee seed extract and horse seed extract which both boost circulation! It is rich and creamy but goes on thin and with a wet consistency.

Choleric/Type 3: A choleric's humor is in it's yellow bile in the stomach.  Their qualities are hot and dry. Choleric's are hot by nature! They tend to have a lot of energy so we want these eye creams to also go to work! This temperament tends to have dry skin which can tend to age quicker.

Four descriptors for this temperament when it comes to eye cream:
Rich (a deeply hydrating cream for dry skin)
Cooling/soothing (hot skin needs a rest every once in a while)
Radiant/Brightening (creating a smooth even surface for ruddy texture)
Anti-aging (Choleric's are also social dominators so they may want to look their best and make sure their eye cream is powerful like they are)

My two recommendations for Choleric temperament:

Deeply rich, and packed with emollients, skin loving vitamins and anti-oxidants, collagen boosting, brightening AND soothing! It packs a mean punch, much like the Choleric's spirit!
Fresh - Crème Ancienne Eye Cream

The best part about this is the soothing and cooling metal roller ball. Keep this in the fridge for extra cooling. Not only that but it is anti-aging and helps smooth out the surface of the skin with alpha hydroxy acids and retinol. It deeply hydrates with castor oil and ginger creates radiance and decreases puffiness. Silly tidbit but ginger even though it not directly going to the digestive tract will aid with digestion even though Choleric's can digest just about anything!

Garnier - Ultra-Lift - Anti-Wrinkle Eye Roller

***I also recommend the Derma e Vitalizing eye cream for a Choleric. It covers all of the Choleric's needs.

Again you can use anything you want but if you are a true Choleric, maybe these will help you!

It is not you! It is the color!

Every once in a while some of us reach that pinnacle point where we look in the mirror and see that life has started to pass us by. We are busy, we have kids etc and we have gotten stuck in a rut where what worked maybe two, five or even ten years ago no longer serves us. Or in my case I adored a certain celebrity and wanted to do my makeup and dress like her and boy did I create some color disharmony in my life!

Case in point, it is not you mostly likely it the colors you put on. We all have colors that work naturally and harmoniously with our own coloring. When we are not in harmony with our natural coloring we look in the mirror and feel drab. Our whole demeanor changes and thus our day or life is not as spectacular.

Growing up I was shy and felt like wearing what I wanted to wear color and style wise I wasn't worthy enough for. How could such a shy person wear such bold colors!? I loved classic glamour and the 1950's. But I did not understand how well that could serve me until this past year when I realized it is OK to be myself but also why I felt so down on myself had more to do with the color I was wearing than anything.

So I am going to show you some photos of me, with color disharmony and harmony. The first is a disharmony of me trying to copy that celebrity. I look pale, lifeless and really sallow. I look much older than I actually am.

Now the next photo is me in what I truly love but would I would wear as a Halloween costume because I couldn't see how wearing such a bold face would match such a quiet and shy person. But.....it is more color harmony then anything. I look alive, youthful and felt much more at home in my body!

Is this even the same person!? YUP!
These are the two best places to find your color harmony on your own:  Expressing your truth and The chic fashionista

There are several factors that play into how we feel about ourselves. But color is the quickest and easiest way to turn your mood around. Accepting that what you once wore does not serve you and letting it go is like being on a gluten free diet and you have to give up all your favorites but once you do you will feel so much better and you will not miss those old favorites anymore!

More examples:

Spring's warm blonde = something is missing

Summer's neutral mix of warm and cool = great but not AMAZING

Autumn's fiery red brings out my redness = I will pass

Winter's cool dark, saturated shine = harmony, contrast

Have a beauty inspired day all!

A simply way to find your Zyla romantic color!

Being that part of becoming your truth and who you are is heavily revolving around color and color psychology, why not show you an easy way to find your David Zyla romantic color in an easy easy way! But first.....who is David Zyla and what is your romantic color.

David Zyla is a well known stylist who created his own template for dressing in harmony with your natural coloring. As far as I am concerned we are all beautiful and it is really about working in harmony with ourselves to find that beauty. This way our harmony can be expressed outwardly with color and vigor. Zyla takes your body and its coloring into account when helping you find your color harmony. One is your romantic color. It is essentially that color you release when you blush. You can find it in your cheeks and by pinching your find tips.

That is the easy part. Being a beauty freak anytime I think of color I don't run to fabrics or paint swatches. I think in terms of makeup. I do this because it is accessible color description wise. MAC is my main go to because it describes its color right on their website. So when finding your romantic color I suggest referring to your favorite makeup website for comparison and if you own any of that brands lipsticks that resemble your now pinched finger tip or blushed cheeks you will find your romantic color with ease. This will also give you a base color with an actual name AND description making wearing that color in clothing etc much more easy to spot when shopping.

Now my Zyla romantic color is not definite yet but in these photos I am trying a lipstick I have at home and have researched it's color description. If you don't know makeup all that well go with fabrics or paint chips (they are free why not!). But it is a fun process! Makeup to me is very accessible with it's color descriptions so for me it makes it easier!

So first you want to pinch you finger tip:

Now here my my hands are really dry and extra red due to the dry weather but the point is that we are pinching our finger tip lol.

Next you can examine what you see. To my it is a rosy pink but it has depth. My first instinct was, oh this reminds me of my favorite Revlon lip butter in Sugar plum. So I decided to swatch it. Sugar plum is described as a natural muted mauve pink:
Right where my finger tip and thumb meet I got some sugar plum on my pointer and you can see that they blend really well, so one can conclude that there is a mauve undertone in there as well. Next I applied it down my thumb and in the crease of my palm. You palms are very close to the consistency of your lips so it is easier to see a color when applied to your palm not the back of your hand. It seems a tad dark on my palm but to me matches pretty well to my finger tip. I have been calling this my Zyla romantic color lately but it will probably change a few times.

I feel like when I wear this lipstick it has a natural look  yet it enhances my coloring. Imagine that in a beautiful top, it would be gorgeous!

Here it is on my lips as well!

Have a great day all!

Feeling Stuck

Life got you in a rut? Feeling stagnant or stuck in any situation is bothersome. For me it happens a great deal. (we will get into those details later). But  when I get this way I do a few things to help me draw away from that feeling and simply move on to the next thing. I recount all the thing I love. Just in general. Be it reading, watching movies or playing with my dog. Whatever it might be. If you have already identified any goals you might have this one helps as well. I go over my list of goals that I am working toward manifesting. Or a particular thing I wanted to even accomplish that day in that moment. The most important that is to ask yourself: Does it serve me to sit here and wallow as I feel stuck in the mud or it is better I work on a solution? That is the best thing to do, remind yourself this is not your permanent reality but only your current reality. It can change at the drop of a hat. So:

1. remind yourself of what you love
2. go over your current goals/aspirations/passions etc
3. ask your self: does it serve me to wallow or should I come up with a solution?
4. Believe in not only yourself but in your situation and that it can change!

Have you lived your truth today?
